Frequently Asked Questions

How important are reference pictures?

The more high-quality reference photographs you can send me of your bouquet the better. The portraits with the most detail come from the best shots of the original bouquet. Many photographers will offer a bridal bouquet shot in their package; these are always very helpful resources for me. Though I always do my best to create a beautiful bouquet portrait, I may not be able to take on a commission in cases of very old, blurry or dark photographs.

Will the drawing be an exact copy of the photograph?

No, photorealism is not the style of art I create. Portraits will have a whimsical, creative flourish that may not reflect the exact placing of the florals as they appear in any one photograph.

Can you focus on my favorite flower in the bouquet?

Yes! Please let me know what your favorite flowers or colors were in your bouquet and I would be happy to feature them more prominently in the portrait.

How big are the drawings?

The overall dimensions of the piece are 9”x12”. The illustrations are generally around 6”x5” or 8”x5". The ultimate layout and composition will be decided by me after reviewing the reference materials.

Do you provide digital copies?

Yes! Each commission will include a .jpeg file scanned image of the final drawing. They can be used for prints, social media posts, etc.

Do the portraits come framed?

No. The portraits will come on a simple mat board for presentation and can be easily removed for customized framing. I highly recommend glass framing to protect pieces from damage and sun exposure.

What medium do you work in?

I use Prismacolor colored pencils and Micron pens.

Can I choose which style is used?

I offer two different styles of illustration: Colored Pencil and Colored Pencil & Ink. Colored Pencil portraits have a stronger emphasis on rich colors and a more realistic feel, while the Pencil and Ink portraits have a more stylized whimsical feel to them. I am typically only able to offer Pencil and Ink portraits with a detailed reference picture. Please be sure to let me know if there is a style you prefer and I’ll see if it will work with your reference photo!
